They say the surgery is a must at this point, and the surgery itself could leave her paralyzed. Please pray earnestly for her. She is all I have in this world or hardship, and I am so scared. | Baby Joel Submitted by: Becky | My friend, Kerri, has a 2 year old son who has Joubert syndrome. This affects him mentally & physically. Recently the doctors did more blood work and discovered that Joel had way to much B12 in his bloodstream. The B vitamins are water soluable so it's pretty much impossible to have to much, your body takes what it needs and it gets rid of the rest when you go to the bathroom. Joel's kidneys are not functioning properly and he is retaining the B12. There are 2 types of Joubert Syndrome..one involves the kidneys and one does not. The children who have the Jouberts with the kidney problems usually do not do well and death by renal failure usually occurs between the age of 4 or 5. Up until now Kerri, her family , & the doctors thought that Joel had the less severe of the syndrome, but now they are not sure.
